Running Tips For The New Runner

Now that the warm (can I really call it warm????) weather is here, many of my clients have been asking me about running. I wanted to post a blog about tips for new runners to answer all of your questions!

Running shoes – This is a MUST for me! The right pair of running shoes will make or break your running experience! My suggestion would be to head to a running store (ie. Running Room) and have them properly fit your feet with the right pair of runners! You want to prevent any chance of injury and enjoy your time running!

Speed and breathing – Who cares about what speed you’re running at! Focus on your breathing and not holding your breath. This is one of the hardest aspects of running and what most people struggle with. Find a pace that you’re comfortable with and work on breath control :)

Running/walking – If you’re a brand new runner and are finding it difficult to run the entire time try the run/walk method! Run until you are starting to get fatigued and then walk for a short walk (until you catch your breath again). I tell my girl’s to pick a landmark just ahead of them and once they get to that landmark they are to begin their run again!

Hopefully this answers a couple of questions for everyone! Now get your butts out to my running group every Sunday night and practice your fabulous running techniques!
